BellSouth-Western, 2012ISBN-13: 978-1-111-22130-0Supplemental readings will be distributed in class or made available on Canvas throughout the semester.Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes:Understanding diversity is integral to the success of an organization.Developing a perspective on how diversity affects the businessenvironment and its administration will assist your knowledge and chances for success in future roles. This class focuses on diversityon the individual level, in the work setting (both public and private sector), in various US cultures/groups and international culturesas well.We will use real-life examples through case studies by analyzing scenarios, understanding opposing viewpoints anduncovering methods of successful approaches to workplace diversity.Current events will supplement the course readings anddiscussions.Some topics and discussions may take us out of our realm of comfort however addressing diversity issues in class willassist you in being able to properly do so in the workplace. A key component to our discussions will be mutual respect of othersviewpoints.Learning Outcomes include:Provide an overview of diversity theoryLearn about the impact of diversity on current events and how it affects the workplaceApply diversity lessons and theory to case studies to gain practical insightExpand our boundaries and understanding of diversity using analysis translated into actionable skillThis is an active class, requiring discussions; students are responsible for coming to class prepared and ready to participate in classactivities, complete assignments on time, inform me in a timely fashion of any situation that may be interfering with their learning,attendance or performance, and provide feedback of the course in a professional manner.Students are responsible for theircontent of all assigned readings, any materials distributed in class or on Canvas, and all information discussed in class. It is yourresponsibility to view email for pertinent class information. The use of laptops, cell phones and other electronic equipment is notpermitted during class.Syllabus ChangesI reserve the right to change the syllabus as needed throughout the semester.
