7-1-1 Discussion: Value of Human Creative Expression for Contemporary Culture How do you think aspects of contemporary culture have influenced the humanities and creative expression? I think contemporary culture has had a major impact on our humanities. The way we all interpret art in this day in age is different than it was in the past. The humanities have allowed us to express ourselves in whys that may have seemed impossible. The ability to express ourselves freely has led to many great pieces of art, ranging from sculptures and paintings to music and movies. It’s a shame that many schools have cut funding to these very important humanities. I feel if we cut these funding, we would lose the sense of value in humanities and lose the ability to really think things out and ask the “bigger questions” in critical thinking. What do you see as the main value of human creative expression for contemporary culture? I think the main value of human creative expression for contemporary culture is to allow others to experience cultures and humanities in ways that were once thought to be impossible. With the new technology allowing virtual tours though museums allow people from all over the world experience art that they may not have had a chance to experience before and we now have the ability to learn more about difference artifacts. Technology has seemed to open a once closed door for us. To not only open our world to artifacts but allows us to express ourselves in a way that was once impossible. We can speak up for values that we strongly agree or disagree with. Whether is something expressing our views on a piece of artwork to expression our concerns with our government.
