I’m generally not in my office on campus during the Tuesday and Thursday hours, so drop-in visits aren’t a good idea. However, spontaneous visits are welcome on Wednesdays. Instructor Availability and Response TimeI check email and D2L at least once a day including weekends. If you ask a question in D2L or need somespecific help, I will get back to you within 48 hours (usually sooner). I don’t always check email or D2L between 10:30 pm and 8:00 am. If there is a day I won’t be available, I’ll post this in Announcements so that you know I’m away from the computer for an unusual stretch of time. Please rely on D2L as the most reliable means of communication. Required ResourcesHacker, Diana and Nancy Sommers. Rules for Writers, 8thedition best, 7thacceptableAtwan, Robert, ed. If you lose access to your regular computer (it breaks or you move, etc.) or internet connection, it is your responsibility to resolve the issue. Computer or internet problems are yours to address; please do not mention them to me as there will be no extensions or concessions to accommodate your difficulties. If all else fails, use a computer at your local library. Back up your work. Due dates are firm and no extensions given for lost work due to computer problems. The same is true for books: you must have access to the required reading material. Financial aid and other logistical problems are not the instructor’s concern. Required Skills (see “How to Get Help” later in the syllabus for some assistance with requirements)Utilize basic functions in Microsoft Word or similar word processing programs; you should knowhow to check spelling, attach documents, space manuscripts, etc. Ability to upload documents D2L (Internet Explorer or Firefox work best). Submissions to the D2L folders in Assignments need to be in Rich Text Format, docx, or doc form. Google Docs do not work in D2L and I don’t use Google Docs for this class.View linked videos and access the Inver Hills library data base (you’ll get help on how to use the library from me, once you’re in!).
