He made many points that made me realize how many dominant ideologies I have believed my entire life. Toward the end of the piece, I also began to wonder what would change if these ideologies were changed and also how I should change with this new knowledge.The strongest point of this piece, I believe, was near the beginning where Cesaire clearly reveals his position by stating, “... what, fundamentally, is colonization? To agree on what is not: neither evangelism, nor a philanthropic enterprise, nor a desire to push back the frontiers of ignorance, disease, and tyranny, nor a project undertaken for the greater glory of God, nor an attempt to extend the rule of the law.” This immediately opened my eyes because it ended every idea I had about colonialism in less than a paragraph. I couldn't wait to read more about why he feels this way and the further I read the more it made sense.
