Using Analytic Techniques to Add Meaning to Data2Amazon.comAmazon.com is a Seattle based company that primarily focuses on e-commerce. It also has its hands in things such as artificial intelligence and digital streaming. The company was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 and originally started out as an online bookstore but quickly diversified by adding other items, including DVD’s, music, video games, electronics, and clothing (Schneider, 2019). The company may seem like a retailer of consumer products but ultimately prides itself as being a technology company, having launched Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2002. This service is a secure cloud services platform, offering computer power, database storage, content delivery and other functionality to help businesses scale and grow (Yadav, 2018). AWS is where most of Amazon’s income comes from, where it controls more than third of the cloud market. In 2018, AWS generated nearly $7.3 billion in operating income which is more than half of Amazon’s total (Page, 2019). AWS success brings in tons of funds to Amazon helping the company to continue expansion and growth. Even though the company itself likes to be considered technology based, many of its fanslooks at the company as a retailer. Amazon.com offers customers tons of items ranging from books all the way to furniture. The company has many different locations in the U.S as well as other areas outside of the country. These locations (known as fulfillment centers) house the manydifferent items that is sold on its website and the strategic placement of their locations allows the company to deliver a customer’s item within as little as a day. The fulfillment centers also help small business’s by offering them the capability of housing their items at the location. Those small business’s can also use Amazon’s website as a means of selling their items online. Amazonalso has other locations around the U.S such as delivery stations and sortation centers which are utilized to help ship packages all over the country and offer customers the ability to buy anything

The company is also big on innovation, creating products such as the popular Kindle (e-book), Echo devices, tablets, and services such as Amazon Prime and the introduction of allowing customers to see other customers reviews about a product. Amazon also created the one-click purchase as well as the Dash button. One click allows a customer to store information such as payment and delivery options to be utilized repeatedly.
