Jessica LeeDr. Anne Marie ZimeriEHSC 3060E21 June 2019I think speciation can be a positive thing for an environment and an ecosystem. In today'sworld many species are becoming extinct due to human activity. The people on Earth aren't doing a good job of preserving biodiversity. According to my notes, "the global extinction rate is 100 times higher than it would be without humans". The hardest hit for extinction were mammalsthat weigh 100 pounds or more. Human activities that threaten animal with extinction are the burning of fossil fuels, releasing of greenhouse gases, fumes from cars and machines, etc. There are now 41,415 species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List, which is a list of animals threatened with extinction, and 16,306 of them are endangered species. This is up from 16,118 last year. This includes both endangered animals and endangered plants.
