Debates Four Discussion periods will be devoted to debates of ethical issues in human genetics. Each of you will be expected to prepare and participate in a debate. Your own debate will be worth 35 points. You will also evaluate the debates of others for another 15 points. Overall Project: Within each section, you will choose a partner. Each set of partners will randomly be assigned a statement regarding a genetic policy that is currently under debate in our society and a position for or against that policy. In addition, each member of each “side” will write a 1-page summary of the genetic basis for the topic, its use, and their arguments to be turned in the day they present their debate. Debate Format: Each debate must start with a summary of the question at hand or a description of the novel technology. One individual from each “side” should participate in this introduction.
