Global climate change and conflict 5/4 It is increasingly likely that the next century will be characterized by shifts in global weather patterns and climate regimes. Change in risk of malaria by 2080 -mosquitoes will be able to live in places that they weren’t allowed to before -follow rainfall area. -as it gets warmer, mosquitoes will be able to live in northern area. -due to release in CO2 in Human population growth -if everyone on earth consumed at thte rate of the average American, we would need 6 planet earths to supply the resources. The connection between resources and armed conflict: Darfur -Sudan—greatest production in precipitation; severely decreased -Drought in the northern part of Darfur forced nomadic groups to immigrate southwards in search of water and herding ground, which resulted in conflict with sedentary tribes. -south –farmers grew crops -change in resources; less and less rainfall…herds of animals move from place to place northern more drier, cannot find resources to feed their animals—further south
