IntroductionThe objective of lab 9 is to learn and understand how a D.C motor structure and principle and itscontrols. Through the usage of the D.C motor and microcomputers, we are able to estimateproper control gain in order to get the desired output in various control systems. Also, by usingthe D.C motor and digital functions, we are able to make a PID controller and a open-loopcontroller. The open loop controller helps us to compute inputs into a system and frequencyresponse and from then we can determine the output and compare it to the input and observe themagnitude of the response in the system and BODE plot them. Now, a PID controller is a closedloop controller which helps us get gains for and by using the Ziegler-Nichols method get thedesired gains.Experimental setupThe instruments used in the experiments are the D.C Motor Control Module, CLIO interfacemodule, Command Potentiometer and a Virtual instrumentation. In the D.C Motor ControlModule, it is composed of the D.C motor, the output potentiometer, a protractor disc, aTachometer, a Tacho generator and a brake. By using the Virtual instrumentation, we are able toinput to the module using the computer in lab and also control the frequency.We can manuallycontrol the experiment in open and closed-loop system without any instrument because we justneed to input it in the computer so the module does the work.Task 1Describe D.C controller and its components.A D.C controller is a system can be controlled by directly inputting voltage into the driveamplifier or by outputting it from the computer virtual instrument. The components used are theoutput potentiometer, a protractor disc, a tachometer, Tacho generator, and break.Output potentiometer- is a three-terminal resistor with an adjustable voltage divider and whenonly two terminals are used, it can act as a variable resistor. It is a voltage divider that measureselectric potential.
Protractor disc- it’s a measurement tools on the drive shaft that gives visible indication of itsposition when its rotating.
