Psy 305Group project: Inspirational personOverviewAs mentioned on the syllabus, you will be part of a group of2-3 students who prepare an interesting presentation on an inspirational person. The group will prepare a presentation that presents the person’s life story, discusses the person’s personality profile, and demonstrates what is inspiring about the person’s life. The goals of this project are 1) to apply the scientific theories that we have been learning about in class to a specific person, 2) to learn more about an inspirational person who can give your life a spark, and 3) to collaborate with colleagues (classmates) and practice making a professional presentation. There are so many inspirational people in our world who have done wonderful things with their lives. Interestingly, many of these people’s lives follow the same basic pattern. Often they come from very modest and normal backgrounds (and in fact, many come from disadvantaged backgrounds) and often they face enormous challenges or obstacles. But they all have a vision or a dream or a goal, and they are able to build their life’s work around this vision. Usually the vision seems so far out, unrealistic, impossible, or just plain stupid that they are told “that will never happen.” But you know what? These inspirational people make the impossible happen. We would like to learn more about these inspirational people, especially so that we can use them as role models for our own lives. Most of us have the feeling that we couldn’t be the next Mother Teresa, Gandhi, or MLK, Jr., but if you learn more about these people’s lives, you’ll realize that you have every chance to succeed at your dreams if you follow the lessons that they have left for us.The PurposeOne of the purposes of college is to help you prepare for the professional world. In practically every career option you could pursue, a part of your job will depend on making presentations to a small audience: teaching and training, demonstrations, sales pitches, meetings, etc. You simply cannot graduate from college without knowing how to put together a top quality formal presentation.Further, in practically every career option you could pursue, a part of your success will depend on working effectively with other people.
