University of Waterloo MATH 138 Calculus II (Physics-based) Winter 2018 Course objectives. The goal of this course is to further expand your knowledge of calculus and its applications for one-variable functions. First, we will explore areas under curves and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, integration techniques. Second, applications of integration including the proof of Taylor’s inequality and an introduction to variational calculus. Third, we will examine differential equations. We will study how to solve separable differential equations and use power series as approximate solutions. Finally, we will examine how Taylor series ties together all the topics in Calculus I and II. Tentative Course Schedule The text sections refer to the course notes.
