English 11 Sem 1A 3.1.10 Practice Sabrina Davidson 11/02/2019 Freudian Slip On a not so hot summer day of 104 degrees, our ballet teacher says, “You are dismissed.” With relief and whatever breath we have left, we courtesy and politely say, “ Thank you,” or “большое Вам спасибо,” - thank you very much in Russian -. My two friends Nick, True, and I sloth like, drag ourselves out of the sauna of a dance studio into what feels like heaven. The blow of the cool AC, the clean smell of fresh clothes from the dryer, peaceful silence, and the sight of something other than ballet: bars, floor, and mirrors is a relief. Feeling like there are gorillas hanging on our legs, we grasp and rely on the walls as if there was an earthquake as we walk down the hall to the back dressing room. Finally we get to the dressing room with victorious feelings as if we won the Olympics, we reach down to place our butts on the super comfortable old hardwood floor. “It wasn’t only me that thought class was super hard today, right?” I said, trying to start up some conversation. In quick reply, Nick says, “ Noooo, it was definitely hard.” Then as I begin to speak, “I don't think I can remember a n y….” and suddenly my sentence comes to a complete halt, because Nick
