History 127B November 16, 2006 Exams – Ready by tomorrow The autocracy had initiated the reforms (this irritated and bothered the Russian education society) Remaining years of the monarchies, the powers and policies were going to dominate all of Russia Last two emperors (Alexander the 3rd and Nicholas the 2 nd ) – were going to judge all of their actions by maintaining the existing political order and authority in the hands of the monarchy By the 1880s, educated Russians of all classes and of all political spectrum felt that resolutions of the crises were being claimed by the monarchs The people felt that something had to change within the monarchy, that some of the power had to be given up Society was changing and maturing quite rapidly and the state had to change in order to survive these warning signs Alexander the 2 nd ’s assassination was the excuse not the cause for reactionary policies for Alexander the 3 rd and Nicholas the 2 nd to redo some of the reforms of the 60s and 70s
