Project 2 2 Research Plan Research Question : What elements made Nelson Mandela a significant figure in the South African Apartheid? What key events lead to the ending of Apartheid? Introduction In order to understand the events of Apartheid, we have to understand where and how it started. Apartheid was the policy of the National Party, which was the governing party of South Africa in 1948. Apartheid’s meaning is, separateness, which was the practice of segregation in every aspect of life. Under apartheid everyone were classified in a racial group. It would determine where a person could be born, where they could go to school, where they could live and work, where they could be treated and buried. Black people could not vote, only whites. Black South Africans were forced to live in poverty and were controlled. Most of the money were spent in
