The Efficacious Preparation of Alka Seltzer Lab Report Abstract Alka Seltzer is a type of medicine and the powder form can dissolve quickly in hot water. The purpose of the lab is to find out the efficacious way to prepare an Alka Seltzer. The four experiments are dissolving speed with different sizes of the Alka Seltzer, dissolving speed with Alka Seltzer in different temperatures of the water, dissolving speed with Alka Seltzer in different volumes of water, and pH volume of water. If Alka seltzer is in the form of powder, then it will dissolve the quickest in the hot water. Introduction Alka Seltzer is a foaming antacid and painkillers. Alka Seltzer dissolves in water. Alka Seltzer is selling by Dr. Miles Medicine Company. Aspirin, sodium bicarbonate, and anhydrous citric acid are the active ingredients in Alka Seltzer. Chemist Maurice Treneer invents the Alka Seltzer. pH measure of hydrogen ion concentration. It has a range of 0 to 14. Below 7 are acidic and over 7 are basic. The first experiment is to test how the size of the tablets affect the speed of dissolution. The second experiment is to test how the temperature of water affects the speed of dissolution. The third experiment is to test if the volume of water affects the speed of dissolution. The fourth experiment is to test how pH volumes affect the rate of dissolution. The students will follow the instructions and the procedure provided to complete the experiments. Hypothesis: - If Alka seltzer is in the form of powder, then it will dissolve the quickest in the hot water. Procedure Experiment 1 1. Put 200mL room temperature water in every three 400mL beakers. 2. Weighted three Alka Seltzer tablets one by one. 3. Put the first whole Alka Seltzer tablet in one of the 400mL beakers.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
