Kyler Vonk Honors English 12- A day/ block 4 September I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Essay Analysis Maya Angelou the author of I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings a Poem about racism in America and her experience with it. Throughout this poem Maya Angelou talks about a bird who’s caged and longs for freedom. The poem talks about how the bird is caged with its wings clipped and the feet tied and the only thing the bird could do is sing a song, a song about freedom from descrimination. In the first stanza of the poem Maya talks about the image of freedom that the bird has in its mind. To do this she uses personification and idioms to describe a vivid scenery that the reader is able to picture in there mind. In the second stanza she describes the cage and the bars of rage that are holding the bird back from this freedom. And although it's not directly stated in the poem it can be clearly seen that the bars of rage and the cage, are both used to represent the
