Golden4.6 1 Why am I not listening? I’m watching your back: Distinguishing Men and Women’s communication. Many divorced marriages have been a result of a lack of communication between couples. This has been tested by sociologist and linguistic professionals. After reading Deborah Tannen’s Sex, Lies and Conversation , one could come to a better look on the communication that they really have with their partner. Sociologist Kohler Reissman did a study of the reason why the partners believe they should divorce. In her study, most of the women,as opposed to the men,“gave lack of communication as the reason for their divorces” (Tannen, 249). Later, Tannen did a study to find out what the problem of communication actually is. This problem seemed to “uncover patterns similar to those described for children’s groups.” (Tannen, 250). Tannen’s study of the gender separation is the result of the communication indifference. As children grow up, there is less verbal communication between the boys and girls than there is when they become older. With
