DUDE, YOU’RE A FAG2where we start to learn and discover who we are as people, and find what individualizes us from everyone else. Personalities develop, and can create problems not only early on in our high school career, but also in our future. In C.J. Pascoe’s Dude, You’re a Fag, we take a look at the idea of masculinity and fag discourse, ideas which start to truly govern who or how people are perceived to act. In the book Dude, You’re a Fag, Pascoe studied and recognized that high school is the perfect setting to observe the gender and sexuality of society, so she decided to formally interview fifty students and informally interview a numerous amount of other students, faculty, and administrators. Pascoe wanted to study the role of masculinity in the lives of both male and female students. Society sees manliness as a term that alludes to the male sexual orientation.
