Shaylon ThompsonCWV-101Christian Worldview12/01/2019Steve Duby, PhDBenchmark - Gospel EssentialsWhen one takes a moment to ponder what is meant by Christian Worldview, a lot is open to interpretation, variation, as well as knowledge and experience. To avoid falling into a seemingly bottomless pit of various meanings and explanations lets define Christian for ourselves. Most definitions of the word Christian will refer to the word Christianity. Christianity is defined as “1: the religion derived from Jesus Christ, based on the Bible as sacred scripture, and professed by Eastern, Roman Catholic, and Protestant bodies; 2: conformity to the Christianreligion; 3: the practice of Christianity.” (Merriam-webster.com, 2019) A lot is said in this definition but very little at the same time. The main things to take note of this assignment is “religion derived from Jesus Christ” and “based on the Bible as sacred scripture”. (Merriam-webster.com, 2019) Without knowing much about Christianity, most know of Jesus Christ. Thereare differing views as to whether or not he is the Son of God but our focus will with him being the Son of God. As such we must have an understanding of the relevance of God, his intent, and what Jesus Christ has to do with all of this. First, we will gain an understanding of God by utilizing the text he provided for our understanding the Bible. GodThere Bible does not have a definition of God but there are many scriptures that provide insight about him. The very first scripture in the Bible Genesis 1:1 tells us that “In the beginning
God created the heaven and the earth.” (Biblegateway.com, 2019) Here we learn of him being a creator. Further reading and understanding provide that heaven and earth consist of all things thatare in or on them. The air we breathe, plants, animals, ground, water, man and women, light, darkness, and all else we see and don’t see. Another word for creator used in the Bible and in the Christian faith is Father. The focus of the Bible though is not on animals and the air we breathe. They play significant roles but man is where the focus is placed. Genesis 1:27 provides information that man was created in God's image. The following scripture, Genesis 1:28, provides the first directive given to man, by God, as He gave man dominion over all his creation in and on earth. He also charged Adam, the first man, with naming all of God's creations.
