POLS 1101 Presidential Election Assignment, Part II (Due Date: March 21 st ) Retype questions and provide your typed answers on a separate sheet. Some answers only ask for data. Some only ask you to name the election years and persons who won. Others ask you to examine the data and analyze the results. Since some questions have multiple parts, please read each question carefully and answer each thoroughly. 1) Before being elected president, Jimmy Carter never served in Washington. All his political experience was in his home state. The Georgia native served on the school board in Sumter County, was a Georgia state senator, was a gubernatorial candidate in 1966, and, after winning in 1970, served one term as Georgia’s governor (1971-1975). In 1976, he was elected president, the only Georgian to do so. Arguably, Jimmy Carter is the most successful politician ever to come from this state. But how did he do it? What was his electoral path to the presidency? Compare Jimmy Carter’s electoral victory map with other Democratic presidential nominees from 1960 to 2004. What does it look like?
