Identify each of the following endocrine glands by describing function, location, and effect that the hormone produced has on the body. 1. pituitary gland Produces hormones that control many other functions of other endocrine glands as well. Located at the base of the brain under the hypothalamus and is no larger than a pea. Thyroid Stimulating: helps regulate metabolism. Adrenocorticotropin: produces several steroid hormones helping with biological stress. Luteinizing: helps to control sexual function and production of sex steroids/hormones. Antidiuretic: helps control water loss by kidneys. Prolactin: stimulates milk production in females. Oxytocin: helps control the uterus during childbirth and milk production.
