C791 TASK 1 2C791 Task 1 Information Management and the Application of TechnologyA1. Usability is how smoothly users can accurately and efficiently perform a task while using a system (EHR Usability Toolkit). An advantage of Cerner EHR is that it is user friendly and all needed information of the health record is organized into tabs. Each tab has a different part of the health record including medical history, lab work, and radiology images. A disadvantage of usability is that there is required downtime. This can cause the end user to delaycharting into the EHR and access to vital electronic results. The advantages of Cerner’s interoperability are that less time is spent searching for information and as a result patient have more time with their doctor. Cerner’s system allows information to be shared across the board, a better picture of the patient’s medical history is available. Medical providers thus will be able to make decisions regarding patient care with needed and vital information ("Hospital & Health Systems"). A disadvantage of Cerner is when newly acquired and began, there is a loss in productivity. Staff must be newly trained, and workflow slows thus reducing productivity. This can cause increased cost in payroll and lost revenue (Menachemi & Collum, 2011).Regarding scalability, Cerner’s systems run on Vertica Analytics Platform. Vertica running on a full rack of HPE server blades at Cerner, the software can handle even more concurrent users and process more data (Cerner Case Study). The disadvantage of this scalability is that there could be increased cost associated with needed upgrades to increase the scalability capacity of your system.Cerner is compatible with many vital sign machines used in hospitals and medical practices today. This is an advantage by saving time by wirelessly entering the information into

EHR systems that effect patient care, such as Cerner, can alert to possibly unsafe drug interactions and reactions. These alerts can protect patients and help prevent prescribing errors. Not all nurses are familiar with current documentation settings. By using Cerner’s Lights On Network, nurses can correctly document needed and vital information on patient care ("Hospital & Health Systems"). Nurses can document assessments a lot faster, which prevents delays in providers placing orders for patients.A3. By using Cerner’s EHR system to access information the quality and delivery of nursing care and patient outcomes can be affected by rather than having to work around patient information, an integrated system, such as Cerner, means you can work off an individual and complete record. A patient’s record can be compiled therefore giving a full review of a person’s
