Student’s Study Guide to accompany “Chemistry” (optional) 3. Student’s Solutions Manual for “Chemistry” (optional) Website: www.wiley.com/college/olmsted Description: This course (3 credits, 3 hours per week of lecture) is the lecture portion of the first semester of the one-year general chemistry sequence. It covers selected topics in chemistry for science majors and others with an interest in science. CHEM 121 is a coreq. for CHEM 122 and a prereq. for all upper division chemistry courses. Prerequisites: High school chemistry or CHEM117/118; Level 4 math placement (two years of high school algebra, MATH104 may be taken concurrently) Coreq. is CHEM122. Honesty Policy: This course observes the EMU Student Conduct Code (see below). Final Examination: Monday December 17, 1:00-2:30 am (120 MJ). [NOTE TIME!] Grading Policy: The course grade will be composed of 500 lecture points Three 100-point exams 300 pts One 150-point cumulative final exam 150 pts Five 10-point quizzes 50 pts Total 500 pts Dates for the 6 quizzes, 3 Exams, and the final exam are all indicated on the lecture schedule (over). Each quiz will be given at the beginning of the lecture period and the lowest grade will be dropped. A grade of 0 will be given for any missed quiz. No makeup exams will be given for any reason. For an absence on any exam, the weight for that exam will be applied to the final exam, in which case will count as 250 pts rather than 150 pts. If more than one exam (including the final) is missed for any reason, a course grade of E will be recorded. The final exam grade will substitute for your lowest exam grade if it is to your advantage, you miss no exams, and you have turned in the homework assignments. Homework:
