2AbstractIn this paper we will be describing the social issues in the case of Claudia which will need a culturally competent social worker. We will also be examining the various culturally competent strategies that might be used to assess Claudia as well as describing the type of data that will be collected from Claudia and her family. Other resources that will be used to get more information about Claudia will be identified and an eco-map created to show Claudia’s situation. Lastly, a description of how the social worker employs the strength perspective and multiple tools in her assessment of Claudia will be examine as well as contributing factors to the social worker and Claudia’s therapeutic relationship.
3Cultural Competence Can be defined as the capacity to transform cultural awareness andknowledge into interventions (health or psychosocial) to promote and sustain an appropriate client- system functioning in a particular cultural context ().In this paper we will explore cultural competence as it relates to the case study of Claudia a Latino child who has recently witnessed a robbery in her neighborhood.In working with client from different socio-economic and cultural background it is essential for a social worker to be culturally competent. In the Case of Working with Children and Adolescents: The Case of Claudia, Claudia is a 6-years old Hispanic female living with her parents is an impoverished urban neighborhood in the United Sates (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). Their neighborhood is characterized by criminal activities, one of which Claudia happen to witness. Claudia’s family migrated from Nicaragua to the United states where they have been struggling to meet ends need because of undocumented and little or no jobs.
