Effects of the Treaty of Versailles (allied and germany only) And the other central powers treaties: St. Germain-En-Laye (Austria), Trianon (hungary), Sevres (ottoman), Neuilly (bulgaria) - Four big things in all of five treaties - Land changes (takin away land) - Reparations ($$$) - Disarmament - Creation of new states/governments Territorial Changes in Europe - Germany loses some territory in west (alsace and lorraine to france), east (east prussia separated from Germany and gives poland sea access danzig port city - made it an international city governed for the league of nations), north (shlutzfig to denmark) - A-H shrunk and divided; new nation states created (caechoslovakia and Yugoslavia (serbia inside)) - Russian territory lost to germany in brest-litovsk treaty made into new states - Italy gains some land, but not the dalmation coast - Rhineland occupied by france Territorial Changes: Africa - Britain, france, and belgium largely split the german colonies in Africa but governed them as “mandates” - de facto (in practice) colonies until deemed capable of self-gov - Mandate system - former german and ottoman colonies are not free and independent entirely but also not fully colonized either, they are mandates and administered by specific league of nation members - There is the expectation that at some point in the future they will be independent -
