Nic Pulcini Economic standpoint of slave trade For more than 350 years, the number of European and US traders, shipbuilders and investors involved directly in the transatlantic slave trade was massive. The network they developed in partnership with Africa's coastal traders and suppliers in Europe, Africa and the United States has produced vast and constantly changing tentacles of trade that bring Africans from their villages to a global business that makes them commodities in new worlds. The survivors of the middle passage and their descendants created meaningful lives circumscribed by the oppressive structures in which they find themselves through creativeness, courage and trust. A slave trip for owners and investors was always a risky financial undertaking. While they were preparing for everything, bad weather, weak navigation, slave uprisings, and other physical threats could lead everything to chaos.
