Why do you want to participate in the Lyceum Scholars Program, and
what do you hope to get out of it?
When my college counselor first described to me the Lyceum Scholars Program, my interest was
immediately piqued. After further research, I stumbled upon the video on the Lyceum Scholars
website, which discussed how the program fits into the “Clemson family” and the type of
community that the program offers. Far and away my biggest draw to Clemson University is the
Clemson family that I have heard so much about from alumni, students, and tour guides. A
community where I am welcomed in with open arms sounds incredible, but the Lyceum Scholars
Program sounds like an even deeper experience that I did not even know I wanted. I long to be
able to express my thoughts in an environment where debate is encouraged. The ability to
strengthen my beliefs and truly understand them instead of simply regurgitating facts is a quality
that has become more and more scarce today. I believe that in a society that has become
