The council of national defense was a United States organization formed on August 1916, to coordinate resources and industry in support of the war effort, including the coordination of transportation, industrial and farm production, financial support for the war, and public morale. It was dissolved in 1921 and stayed dissolved until years later when it was briefly revived during WW2 to hold different agencies, one such agency is the National Defense Research Committee. It was the first of the large emergency Government agencies of World War I and became, in turn, the parent organization of most of the other special war agencies. The Council had its first meeting on December 6, 1916, where they appointed people to run each of the industry that the national defense oversaw. The War Industries Board was a United States government agency established on July 1917, during World War I, to coordinate the purchase of war supplies between the War/Army Department and the Navy Department.
