Final Project One1IntroductionPurposeIn terms of population, Australia is ranked 55thin the world with an estimated population of 25.20 million people (Australia Population 2019, n.d.). Their healthcare system is called Medicare and its coverage and public hospitals are all funded by the government. More specifically they are funded by federal, state and local territories. I’ve chosen Australia’s healthcare system because of its overall general appeal for healthcare for all. The United States isin dire need of a healthcare reform that would allow all citizens in all walks of life access to healthcare. I feel that the United States could benefit by this type of healthcare system in the future, because under our current healthcare system, those in poverty levels do not benefit a whole lot by our current system. Despite our adaptation of our latest healthcare reform program, those uninsured has reduced in number; unfortunately, there are still so many Americans that simply cannot afford health insurance and do not qualify for assistance. I feel Australia’s healthcare system could be an excellent starting point where the U.S. could build off of and improve on. Country DetailsAccording to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), of the 25 million people in Australia, 3.3% of them are Aboriginal and/or Torres State Islander, 71% live in major cities, 18% is disabled and 26% of the population was born overseas[ CITATION Aus18 \l 1033 ]. Currently, the median age of the total population is 37. Australia’s government is reflective of both North American and British governments. “Australia is governed by both the federal government and the state and territory governments. Queen Elizabeth II is Australia’s head of state under a constitutional monarchy” [ CITATION Ben19 \l 1033 ]. Queen Elizabeth II
Final Project One2is the current acting Governor-General. Under the constitution and advice from the prime minister, Scott Morrison, she is delegated with several head-of-state responsibilities. Like the United States, Australia’s federal government is comprised of the three arms of government: Legislature, Judiciary and Executive. The state government, called the Commonwealth, has six states. They are New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. “Each state government self-governs on matters not controlled by the federal government and is headed by the Premier”[ CITATION Ben19 \l 1033 ]. There is a total of twelve territories within Australia. There are three territories that maintain self-governance, whilethe remaining nine are all governed under the Commonwealth Law. Since 1901, Australia has managed to maintain a stable liberal democratic government. They also boast the largest median wealth since 2018. “The service sector is the largest portion of the Australian economy, making up 61.1% of the market an employing 79.2% of Australian citizens. Despite these successes, the economy is growing at the slowest rate that it has in a very long time at just 1.8% annual growth”
