Managing up is important because it creates a positive dynamic between the manager andsubordinate, that makes jobs for everyone involved easier. When both parties clearlyunderstand the task at hand, as well as understanding the bosses priorities, it builds trustand understanding of how to effectively achieve those goals.I believe the most important aspect of managing up is through communication. Before Istarted working for the federal government I wasn’t aware of how compartmentalized eachagency was. The relationship I had with my manager was always good, he knew I wasfocused and a hard working employee, but outside our relationship not many other peopleknew what I did or what kind of employee I was. During a meeting I requested with him, wediscussed how upper management doesn’t know exactly all the accomplishments of myteam since it was not well documented.
