Brain itself has photoreceptors that are used in setting biological clock 3. Is brain biological clock? i. H cecropia's normal emergence time is after lights on ii. Antherea normally emerges just before lights-off iii. Switched up the brains in the bodies and sure enough cecropia brain w/ pernyi body emerged after lights-on and pernyi just before lights off Bio clock in rodents, (rats and hamsters) 1. Similar experiment, but they wanted to know what part of the brain is involved 2. Anecdotal work (stories, observations)- certain brain injuries affect bio clock in humans, the part of the brain is the Suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) but can it be shown to be true? 3. Experiment; i. Blocking SCN output (cutting the axon) (input is intact) 1. Animals with this problem lost rhythmic activities ii. Blocking SCN input (output is intact) 1. Rhythms are maintained
