Jordan Jones Goldstein CMP 120 I230 September 2019The Reign of Climate ChangeOver decades human urbanization and excessive use of pollutants has been destroying theenvironment. “We Can’t Wish Away Climate Change, written by Al Gore,discusses his concerns with climate change. Gore shares how climate change has come about and the damages it has caused. He mentions what the government is and is not doing. “The Siege of Miami, written by Elizabeth Kolbert, discusses climate change and how it is causing major flood issues in Miami Beach. Kolbert personally goes through neighborhoods and witnesses the damage that is being done. Gore’s concerns and predictions on climate change are supported by Kolbert’s experiences. Gore’s prediction about global warming is supported in Kolbert’s research by proving that the environment is constantly being destroyed by human waste. Gore believes that the temperature will increase because of pollution and will later cause very damaging effects to the environment. He states, “Hurricanes are predicted to grow stronger and more destructive, though their number is expected to decrease” (548). Although, there will be a decrease in hurricanes the catastrophic damages that these hurricanes will cause will ultimately create more problems and possibly cause fatalities. Rising sea levels are another effect of pollution and cause an uproar amongst the community because people want to know where the water is coming from when it flows through their streets and floods their homes.
