Almeida 1Victoria Almeida English 3 Mrs. Echevarria 5 November 2019 Writing about Theme To begin with, “The Bean Trees” by Barbara Kingsolver and “Pigs in Heaven” by Barbara Kingsolver, they both use conflict, setting, and foreshadowing, to show how family and friends support is extremely important to people. Also, they show that everyone should be treated equally, no one is different. It shows the importance of family and the support they give us, as well as, the need from our community to be there for us as our emotional support systems when we teens are facing hardships and don’t know where to go or do about a situation. And also the other theme is equality, women should always be treated the same as men. We can do everything they can too. First off, the first literary element that, “The Bean Trees” and “Pigs in Heaven” both have is conflict, in these two novels shows that taking care of someone is not easy as it sounds, and going through abusement and trying to leave the feeling of abandonment is a lot harder than just someone saying, “stop, move on.” An example of the “The Bean Trees” is “Mattie's place was always hopping. She was right about people always passing through, and not just customers, either. There was another whole set of people who spoke Spanish and lived with her upstairs for various lengths of time. I asked her about them once, and she asked me something like had I ever heard of a sanctuary.
