Racism without Racists, Eduardo Bonilla-Silva Took data from two sources: 1997 Survey of Social Attitudes of College Students 1998 Detroit Area Study College Students Three universities: Midwestern, Southern, Western 627 college students interviewed, 451 were white 10 percent random sample of white students who provided contact information 41 qualitative interviews 17 men, 24 women 31 were from middle- and upper-class backgrounds 10 were working class Detroit Residents Representative sample of 400 Black (67) and White (323) Detroit residents  Response rate 67.5 percent Randomly selected 84 participants selected for in-depth interviews (66 White, 17 Black) Interviews were race matched, followed a structured protocol, conducted in participants’ homes for about 1 hour.
