Abuelatta 1 Yousef W. Abuelatta Mrs. Vivien King-Sherwood ENG3U 8 December 2019 Toronto Speaks Out! On the 6 th of August 2010, The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) hosted the second annual SPEAKout summer slam. Right there in the heart of Toronto, over 230 people from various different backgrounds gathered along to witness the national spectacle of the summer slam. The event gathered 13 of the most talented poets from across the country under one roof, including names like Chris Tse, Loh El, Ahmed Al Ahmady, and Amal Ahmed Albaz. All with a common goal: to share their story and raise awareness of common issues in today’s society. The aim of the show was to educate and aware the audience of stereotypes, “to illuminate the truth” like Al Ahmady said in his poem. In addition, the event targeted those whose voices were unheard and whose accomplishments were buried with them in the ground. Praising those who
