Please provide very short and to the point answers: Economy of language is important! 1. Describe in a few sentences what Figure S15 means. How does it represent “complexity” as discussed in class? S15 is the Interacting Networks figure. It shows many different protein clusters/modules that carryout specific functions (e.g. RNA degradation, galactose utilization). It shows that many proteins act in more than one function. The implication is that, for example, a defect in a protein in one function can less-directly affect many other functions as well. 2. What is a Gene Family? What is a major theory for how they arose in evolution? A gene family is a number of different genes that all share some sequence identity.
