Abstract
:
The differences between
3G and 4G are done on the basis of
following terms: Definitions, Background
differences, Speed, Bandwidth and
Frequency
Band,
Architecture,
Applications, , QoS, Features and
capabilities
.
Keywords-
3G,4G,UMTS,LTE,WCDMA,CDMA
1.
Introduction
:
1G,2G,3G
and 4G are the mobile
telecommunication technologies.
where “G” stands for generation.
1G first generation, 2G second
generation, 3G and 4G third and
forth generation respectively. Up
gradation of mobile cellular has
revolutionized the way people
communicates. If we talk about
how the communication style of
people got changed with respect
to the change in mobile networks
generation. Let’s talk from the
beginning. The 1
st
generation
(1G) of mobile network fulfilled
the basic voice communication.
With the invention of 2
nd
generation users of mobile
technology met with capicity and
coverage. Later the 3
rd
generation
(3G) given people access to high
speed and opened the gates of
truly
“mobile
broadband”
experience that had further
realized in 4G. 4
th
generation gave
access to a wide range of mobile
telecommunication.
1.1:
Basic definitions of
3G and 4G
:
3G
stands for the third generation. It is
named as such because it is the third
generation
of
wireless
telecommunication. It is the successor of
2G and 2.5G. 3G technology is founded on
the International Telecommunication
Union group of standards which belongs
to
IMT-2000(International
Mobile
Telecommunication 2000.)
4G
stands for
the fourth generation. It is named as such
because it is the fourth generation of
wireless telecommunication. A 4G system
provides its user an ultra-broadband
internet access with higher data rate.
2.Background difference
:
3G
technology which was founded on
international Telecommunication union

group of standard IMT-2000 uses W-
CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple
Access) technique. It allows the network
operator to provide its user a big range of
latest services. whereas
4G
technology
which was started in 2009 gives user a
new experience of downloading speeds
and capabilities
.
3. Speed
:
3G
third generation offers
maximum real world speed of [1]5.8Mbps
to 14.4Mbps[1]. But a
speed of 300Mbps
on 3G can be achieved in a controlled
environment.
Whereas
4G
goes up to 100Mbps to
1Gbps.
