Nikki Cook Bio lab 181 section 18 October 9, 2007 Lab 6: Tools of the light trade Part A: Coloring your world In this experiment we had a series of five different dye solutions and we tested their absorbency. Absorbency, in the term we are referring to it as in the lab, is the ability of an electron to jump from one state, or orbital, to another. It may also return by giving up the energy as a photon. To test the absorbency we used a spectrophotometer and tested the dyed solutions with six different wavelengths from the spectrophotometer; 350, 430, 500, 590, 630, and 660. At wavelength of 350 Green had the highest absorbency and blue had the lowest absorbency. At wavelength of 430, yellow had the highest absorbency and pink had the lowest. At wavelength of 500, pink had the highest absorbency and blue had the lowest. At 590, violet had the highest absorbency and pink had the lowest. At 630, blue had the highest absorbency and pink had the lowest. And at 660, green had the highest absorbency and pink had the lowest.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
