Lombroso found scientific proof that crime was caused within the individual and was influenced by theories in Darwin’s “Origins of the Species” and Darwin’s “The Descent of Man” to find the causes of crime. (Moyer,2001) The Positivist School focused on a deterministic approach studying criminal behavior and the prevention of crime through treatment and rehabilitation of offenders. The school looked at the individual differences among criminals that are passive and controlled. Studies showed that criminal behavior is imposed on people by biological and environmental conditions. (Moyer,2001) Lombroso studied male prisoners and women criminals.
