Abuelez1 May Abuelez Ms. Carbonell Writing 10 6th hour 5/1/18 Martin Luther King's “Letter from Birmingham jail” In Martin Luther King Jr’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, he argues that his actions were for a good reason, and they've waited to long for racial justice. He wrote the letter on April 16, 1963 while he was in jail for having a peaceful protest without a permit. King was writing this letter to the Clergymen who were disappointed by his actions. They were especially mad at King because he must lead by example, many people follow his actions and ways. King’s purpose was to try to give a valid explanation for why he had this kind of protest. The main content of the letter is racial injustice. King had a calm and peaceful tone. In his letter he uses many different rhetorical devices. One device he used well was metaphor. This device was used especially well to convey the desperation that African Americans went through.
