May AbuelezMrs.DecamillisEnglish 11 5/12/19Personal EssayI’ve been told many times that family was everything. I used to ignore my family sometimes or skip family events and I never used to care. That is until June 11th. That day changed everything for me. It was absolutely the worst day of my life. The days leading up to June 11th were not the best either. It all started in the beginning of May. My grandpa would go to the hospital once a week maybe twice. After some time it turned to almost everyday. I remember vividly every time I wentto visit him. It was difficult the more I saw him. My uncles came to the decision to keep my grandpa in the hospital just in case anything happened. I never knew what was wrong with my grandpa, i just assumed it was because he was getting old.As days and weeks passed by i finally asked my dad why my grandpa was sick. He told me that he had leukemia. I’ve heard of leukemia many times before but never really understood exactly what it was. Basically it’s a type of blood cancer. When my dad told me had leukemia I remember I just froze there for a second. I’m not usually a sensitive person but that month i criedalmost every single day.My everyday schedule was the exact same. I wake up in the morning to go to school, thenafter school I go home for 10 minutes to change, after that I go straight to the hospital for the restof the day. It was like my day was on repeat every single day. My school life was so stressful because of finals and end of the year projects. It was really difficult for me to keep my grades up.

I felt like i never had time to do any homework. It felt like i was in a little bubble and i couldn’t get out. Everytime we went to see my grandpa we prayed that he would get better. The truth is he was getting worse. All of my family from California and Ohio came to see him. It was nice to be with my whole family because they live far away. This month was during ramadan so it was really hard for them to travel back and forth. They tried to visit as much as they could throughout

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
