Abuelez2 May Abuelez 2/8/17 4th The Necklace Analysis Madame Loisel is a greedy yet beautiful women. She only believes in dresses and jewels. What she doesn’t know is a lie could bring her down. Mathilde borrows a necklace from Madame Forestier. When, Mathilde leaves the party with Monsieur she realized she didn’t have the necklace. It was gone, she lost it. They went back and retraced their steps. There was no sight of the necklace at all. In the story Maupassant uses different devices including imagery and symbolism to express madame loisel's personality. One of the devices Maupassant used is imagery. “ She discovered, in a black satin case, a superb diamond necklace; her heart began to beat covetously” (Maupassant 3). Mathilde describes the beauty of the necklace. When she puts the necklace on she falls in love with it. Everyone at the party was staring at her beauty. Mathilde uses the necklace as a symbol of wealth. When mathilde arrived at the party she stood out. “She was the prettiest woman present, elegant, graceful, smiling and above her happiness”
