Candidacy Paper: Behavioral Problems Linked to Literacy Issues
BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS LINKED TO LITERACY ISSUES2Candidacy Paper: Behavioral Problem and Literacy IssuesStatement of the ProblemThe contributing factors of the behavioral problem among children include family difficulties, substance abuse, mood disorders, and emotional difficulties (Mash & Wolfe, 2012). Behavioral problems are associated with many adverse effects on the affected child, including development or literacy issues. Research suggests that different levels of literacy in children are determined by their behavior (Baker et al., 2015). Therefore, a child with a behavioral problem can experience literacy issues such as reading comprehension impairments and decoding challenges, also known as dyslexia. Past studies that have covered the topic of the behavioral problem and literacy issues confirm that there is a relationship between the two variables. However, the studies have not examined how behavioral problem can cause literacy issues. They focus mainly on establishing aconnection between the two items. The relationship has been found in the opposite way where literacy challenges cause behavioral problems in children (Hurry, Flouri & Sylva, 2018). The present study will aim at filling this gap in research and literature to answer specific questions that address the subject directly. Specifically, the researcher will be investigating ways in which behavioral problem in children can lead to literacy issues. The choice of this issue is based on various reasons. Understanding the cause and effect mechanism of behavioral problem and literacy issues in children is an important measure to apply preventive measures and avoid the development of literacy issues for children with behavioral problems. By identifying the cause and effect relationship between behavioral problem and literacy issues, it is possible to take appropriate measure in reducing delinquency, poor performance in the classroom, and school dropouts in children.
BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS LINKED TO LITERACY ISSUES3Conceptual FrameworkThe theory I plan to present if very simple. I plan conduct my research from a method I feel is most effective and credible when collecting information. My conceptual framework with be primarily built upon the data I collect from surveys I administered from teachers and professionals who work with children with literacy and behavorial disorders. This approach of undertaking research will help in shedding light on the subject of children with the behavioral disorder and literacy issues. Specifically, the method will entail the distribution of questionnairesto the chosen participants. The questions will be structured to allow the collection of numerical data. Survey questionnaires are used in research to collect quantitative data with the use of specific issues (Paradis, O'Brien, Nimmon, Bandiera, & Martimianakis, 2016). The researcher will use open ended & closed-ended questions whose answers are predetermined for the respondent to select one of the given choices on the Likert scale. Survey questionnaire allows the
