Throughout my 19 years of life , I have continuously changed my view on what I believe a successful adult is . In my younger stages , money and friends seemed to stand the most out in my mind . However as I grew older , I began to realize that although those aspects can make me happy , there are many other important traits and characteristics that need to be in my life for me to see myself as successful . For example , a current accomplishment that is essential to me is doing well and completing my education at UCSB , or another four-year university . I believe this will bring me closer to achieving financial stability , which is also something I hope to have . Remaining close with my family can influence my success on a much deeper level . It’s important for family to support me when I’m doing well , but even more important for them to be there when I’m having trouble . Friends will come in and out of my life , but my family will always have the biggest weight in my accomplishments . The value of having a successful career has probably changed the most in my life . My viewpoint has altered from arriving at UCSB to now . I came in believing that money was the most important aspect in my career , and therefore chose a major that I thought would grant me this , biology . After contemplating on the subject for some time , I realized that I chose that major because it was what my parents, and even myself thought I wanted . I am now working towards a career where happiness comes before money , which is what I think a successful career should be . Finally , being comfortable with my heritage and background is something I am currently overcoming and someday hope to achieve . Once I can be at ease with the person I am , is when I can begin to refine the other areas in my life .

This can help me work towards getting an education and having a rewarding career . Chickering discusses how there are three areas of this competence , one being intellectual skills . This is an area I am more developed in. For example , I have maintained roughly the same GPA here at UCSB that I did in high school , which was above average . Compared to other students , as one poll suggests 44% of students said their GPA was lower than in high school (Andreatta 2008) . However obtaining a high GPA does not mean I am completely developed in this skill . There are parts of my academic life that I need to improve on , such as my writing skills . I have tried to avoid taking writing classes as I am a science major so when I am faced with a paper , it takes some time to complete it . The second part of this vector is
