Cortical Motor Areas 1. Primary Motor Cortex – responsible for generating the neural impulses controlling the execution of movement. Afferents include – promoter cortex, posterior parital motor cortex, Senory Motor cortex, supplemental motor cortex, And Thalamus 2. Premotor Cortex – planning goal directed movement (w/ external target). Has Callosal Connec. . Efferents include – Primary Motor Cortex, and brainstem. 3. Supplimental Motor Cortex – planning and Coordination of complex movements (ie two hands). Has Callosal Connections. Efferents include – Primary Motor Cortex, and brainstem. 4.Posterior Parital Motor Cortex – transforms visual Information into motor commands. Efferents include – (PMC) and Supplimental Motor Cortex. Afferents include – Visual cortex and Somatosensory Strip. Subcortical Motor Areas 1. Basal Ganglia – important to motor control, cognition, Emotion, learning. Consists of…the 1 . striatum , which consists of putamen (forms lenticular nucleus w/ globus pallidus,) caudate nucleus , and nucleus accumbens 2.external segment of the globus pallidus
