This eventually led to the“discovery” of the new trade routes and new land, the Americas. In order tounderstand how the age of expansion and conquest was developed, it importantto understand the internal growth process. The two factors associated with thisprocess are the Crusades and the Black Death. The Crusades were around from1095 to 1291 and were historical legacies. They were known for their stories ofadventures and their riches. European soldiers brought back dramatic stories andexamples of the wealth of the East in the form of perfumes, silks, spices, andfruits.
