7/5/12 3PROLOGUE Let Every Man Consider [We hear the ambient sound of a desolate lonely highway. Kern County, Central California, off Highway 99. An empty stage stripped of decoration hollow and hallowed - its emptiness feels religious. There is a change in the light and tone of our world. Suddenly, the song of the highway is the sound of prison doors opening. In the air, we hear the sound of a chifle (a whistle). It is followed by two more a sort of call-and-response of whistling. Los tres chiflesecho as they sing the beginning of the CORO. They enter as inmates in a line-up and stand facing each other as they form a square. We hear the sound of prison doors slamming shut.
