SVN3M – This Changes Everything – Capitalism vs. The Climate Lesson Four: What is Our Relationship With the Earth? Part 1: Examining Extractivism and Regeneration a) Read the TCE book excerpts “Extractivism” and “Regeneration” (Google Classroom) and write definitions of these concepts. Give a historical or modern-day example of each concept. Extractivism - Extractivism is the extraction of natural resources that are destined for export. It includes the extraction of fossil fuels and minerals, deforestation, agro- industry, and megadams. Regeneration - deriving our food from farming methods that protect soil fertility;our energy from methods that harness the ever-renewing strength of the sun, wind and waves;our metals from recycled and refused resources. b) In groups, use the Handout provided to merge individual definitions of extractivism and regeneration into group definitions to be recorded. Choose from among individual examples the ones that best fit the group definitions and record these in the Handout. c) Choose a spokesperson from your group to share definitions and examples with the class using the following guiding questions: Who benefits and who is hurt? Are there any patterns that be seen?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
