1Sara JonesT. SchumacherENG 102: Persuasive EssayMay 7, 2019The number of children families are having has drastically decreased over the past decade. Is this for the better or not? It is not for the better because you need siblings, or in your case more than one child. It is very crucial that you have multiple kids, it sets their future and shapes them into who they become. Do not worry though, there are many benefits when there areat least two kids in a family. Siblings provide so much in life, which should never be taken for granted. You are to have more than one child and if you do not then they will have mental problems. When you have at least two children then they will have each other, and you will have a better connected household.Only-children tend to have mental problems. They are overly sensitive unlike those who have siblings. Since they have no one to pick on them constantly they aren’t aware of what it is like to be made fun of. Only children don’t know what it is like to be teased, hence why they takeeverything to heart. I read online that, “However, for many only children, that lack of playful teasing means they’re a bit more sensitive as adults” (Crow). On top of that only children tend to be very lonely and need constant attention. You may think that you may be able to provide them the attention and fun that they need, but sadly you can’t. The attention siblings can provide versus you is unremarkable. They need attention from other children like them. “Your child may also feel lonely, even if you play with her all the time” (Rodman). Not only would you make

2your child lonely by making them be alone by having no siblings, but you’d create social problems for them as well. They would not be surrounded with others to learn how to communicate, how to treat others, how to behave, and so on. It balances out by at least having two kids, so they can help one another. I read online that, “…developing social and emotional skills are often lacking in only children simply because they do not have the place to develop them” (Sorensen). Those who have siblings often tend to be happier and healthier, unlike those that have no siblings. Wouldn’t you rather have a kid that enjoys life? I did some digging online and found out that, “Research shows that a close bond with a sibling during middle and old age is correlated with positive mood and overall health” (Holmes). When you have two kids or more you will not have to worry about any of that, and there are many bonuses! They will have each other forever. You will never have to worry about loneliness because your kids will always have a playmate, as known as each other. They’ll be
