James Reeb was killed in 1965 by 4 perpetrators during the 1965 VotingRights Campaign in Selma, AL. 3 of the 4 were charged and acquited of themurder. The FBI failed to solve this case two times, in 1965 and 2008. If theFBI had shared their case files with the Alabama officials, the perpetratorwould have been prosecuted years before. However, this is only anassumption, and they could never have known. So, An act has been passedon releasing some case files, so this does not occur again.From this article, we can draw many conclusions. For Example, we can inferthat Reeb's case was significant to the community as they wanted to solve it.We can draw that the FBI is very protective over their work. They also like tokeep everything as private as possible. We can also conclude that if the FBIhad released records, William Portwood would have been prosecuted,therefore solving the case.In this article, I personally believe that the FBI should have released the filesto the Alabama Authorities.
